The Evaluation of the Nature of Sedentary Behavior and Physical Activities Among Students of Performing Arts

European Journal of Physical Education and Sport. 2024. 12(1): 3-15.

Abstract:
The aim of the research was to evaluate the nature of sedentary behavior and physical activities among students of performing arts. Two standardized questionnaires were used: the Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire (SBQ) and a modified version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ Short Form). The research sample consisted of 124 students from the Faculty of Performing Arts at the Academy of Arts in Banska Bystrica. Significant differences in sedentary behavior were found between weekdays and weekends. Students spent an average of 9 hours and 42 minutes engaged in sedentary activities during weekdays and 7 hours and 33 minutes during weekends. The majority of sedentary time was dedicated to studying and class preparation (237 minutes per day) and playing a musical instrument (105 minutes per day). Moderate-intensity physical activity was reported by 48.39 % of students, while 23.39 % exhibited low levels of activity. Only 23.38 % of students achieved more than 10,000 steps per day. The results indicate a need to raise awareness about the importance of physical activity among students. It is recommended to organize lectures and workshops on the health benefits of exercise and to provide practical advice on integrating physical activity into their daily routines, taking into account their time constraints and academic commitments.м

European Journal of Physical Education and Sport. 2024. 12(1): 24-28.

Abstract:
The article is dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the birth of Soviet-Russian coach, teacher, President of the Russian Weightlifting Federation of the Soviet period, judge of weightlifting competitions, Colonel Konstantin Fedorovich Artemyev (1914–2010). The materials of our work are biographical works about Artemyev's personality. The methodological complex of the research consists of the methods of historiographical analysis, the biographical method and the synthesis method. K.F. Artemyev became famous, first of all, as an outstanding weightlifting coach who trained many famous Soviet weightlifters, in particular A. Khrapaty, Ya. Tals, L. Taranenko, and others. He took up coaching, a lifelong hobby, immediately after graduating from university, joining military educational institutions and rising to the rank of colonel, where he trained sabotage scouts (including during the Great Patriotic War, for which he was awarded orders and medals). Artemyev always found time to engage children from rural areas, organizing voluntary sports clubs, traveling to villages in the Moscow region, motivating children to play sports and reach the top in weightlifting. Besides coaching, he was a prominent sports official, namely the president of the Weightlifting Federation of the RSFSR and the USSR, Vice-president of the Weightlifting Federation of the Russian Federation. He was awarded many of the highest awards of the world and domestic weightlifting Federations, in particular, the badge of honor “For his great contribution to the development of weightlifting in the world” (International Weightlifting Federation), the badge of honor “For Services to the development of Physical Culture and Sports” (USSR State Committee for Sports), the badge of honor “For services to the development of the Olympic movement” (USSR Olympic Committee) and others. Artemyev was distinguished by his dedication, focus on results, hard work, discipline, and the ability to see and respect the personality in his students.
